Joseph Gray Bobbitt

Mr. Joseph Gray Bobbitt, 73, of Winston-Salem, passed away on September 25, 2026, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Bobbitt was born on May 23, 1953, in Forsyth County, to the late Mr. Samuel Palmer Bobbitt and Mrs. Annie Leonard Bobbitt.

Joseph was a loving father, husband, and “oldman” to all who knew him. Joe loved to read, especially Tolkien. When his friend Rick gave him The Hobbit, he read it in one night. He loved to fish but hated the taste of it. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, rock climbing and rapelling in his youth.

He loved sports, particularly golf and football, and loved watching football at any level from kids up to professionals. His father gave him a love of Westerns, both John Wayne and Eastwood. He could click through a game of Minesweeper and win in a matter of minutes. He also enjoyed playing other computer games, mostly strategy types.

Joseph also played cards, especially poker, and worked diligently to never miss the monthly poker game at his friend Dwight’s house, even if it meant that he didn’t get to eat exactly what he wanted. He was very particular about what he liked to eat, but was most happy with his wife Sherri’s cooking, especially when it included gravy.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His life will be forever remembered.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in passing by his sister, Jane Saylor.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sherri Bobbitt; three children, Samantha E. Bobbitt, Joseph Gray Bobbitt II (Patty Adkins), and Christopher R. Bobbitt (Rachelle Darienzo); three grandchildren, Finnegan, Jasper, and Daisy; and his former spouse, Kaye Bobbitt (Samantha’s Mother.)

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 2:00pm ~ 4:00pm at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
