Joseph Lauffer, Jr.

Mr. Joseph Peter "J.P." Lauffer, Jr. passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born July 20, 1937 in Charlotte, NC, the son of the late, Joseph Peter and Lucille Stevens Lauffer. Mr. Lauffer was a graduate of Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tennessee and received a BA Business Administration/Economics from Vanderbilt University. He moved from Nashville, Tennessee to Winston-Salem to work for Wachovia Bank and Trust. He was Owner and President of Atlantic Mortgage and Investment Company. He also worked for the Pfefferkorn Company as Executive Vice President and was an Assistant Manager at First Family Mortgage. He was on many boards including First Carolina Savings and Loan Association, Tri-City Building Components, Inc., Continental Mortgage Corporation, Winston-Salem Board of Realtors, Mortgage Bankers Association of America, Southern Industrial Developers Association and Forsyth Country Club. He has volunteered for the American Red Cross close to ten years. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church where he was on the vestry and served as an usher. He was a lifelong, avid reader, played tennis and enjoyed being outside doing yard work. J.P. loved and adored his daughter, son-in-law, and grandson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Lauffer. Survivors include one daughter, Brahan Lauffer Agnew and husband, John Samuel Agnew of Raleigh; one grandson, John Samuel Agnew, Jr. of Raleigh; one sister, Beji Fitts and husband, Gary Fitts of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and three nephews, Travis Fitts, David Fitts, and Forrest Fitts. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 3:00 PM at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. The family will great friends at a reception following the service in the Colhoun Room at the church.
