Joseph Gray Linville, Jr.

With deep love, we announce the passing of Joseph Gray Linville, Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was born on August 26, 1950, in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Joseph Gray Linville, Sr. and Doris “Dot” Linville. Gray dedicated his life to his faith, family, and the values he held dear. He taught those he loved the importance of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, loyalty, hard work, integrity, and selflessness. He expressed his love through action—by showing up, lending a helping hand, providing for his family, and being someone his loved ones could always depend on.

Gray will be remembered for the deep love he shared with his wife throughout 55 years of marriage. He was a man of few words, yet his dry and goofy sense of humor had a way of bringing laughter and joy to those around him. He was the leader of his home, a source of strength and wisdom for his family, and a true hero to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His legacy lives on in the faith, values, and love he instilled in generations.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Linville. Gray is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Nancy W. Linville; three daughters, Wendy Hutchins, Patiences Brooks, and Cayce Hewlett; two sons, Robby Brooks (Gail) and Russ Hewlett; eight grandchildren, Erin Sullivan, Kristen Hewlett (Morgan Cook), Hannah Manns (Vince), Michael Brooks (Savannah), Karley Hewlett, Bradley Brooks, Josh Ballin (Zoe), Juliana Ballin; nine great-grandchildren; Gavin Sullivan, Riley Sullivan, Maci Hernandez, Nevaeh Brooks, Anthony Gray Brooks, Shattalon Brooks, Colby Cook, Colton Cook, Serenity Cruz; one brother, Ed Linville (Janet); fur child, Champ; fur grandchild, Remi; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by adopted grandchildren over the years.

A funeral service will be conducted 2:30pm Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Freedom Baptist Church with Pastor Jon White and Pastor John Byerly officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church.
