Joe was born on April 1, 1955, in Kentucky, where he grew up with his brothers Kenny, Jerry, and David Peerenboom.
Basketball was an important part of Joe’s life, and it opened meaningful opportunities for him, including a basketball scholarship to the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering. He later completed his Master’s of Business Administration at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
In 1980, Joe married the love of his life, Donne. Together, they spent 45 years building a family grounded in love, laughter, and deep devotion. Becoming a father to Morgan and Josh was the greatest joy of his life, and as the years went on, his grandchildren filled his life with a joy that was unmistakable.
Joe spent many years building a meaningful career with Lorillard, providing for his family and creating the life he cherished with Donne and their children.
Joe will be remembered for his steady presence, his reliability, and the quiet, unwavering way he cared for the people he loved. He had a warm sense of humor and a gentle spirit. His stories were well-loved, and among his brothers, a favorite memory was his ability to wiggle his ears, a lighthearted trick that became a family classic. He enjoyed cheering on University of Kentucky basketball, rooting for the Green Bay Packers, and spending time with the people he loved most.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Betty and Pete Peerenboom. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Donne; his children, Morgan (Michael) Aldridge and Josh (Dori Hansbury) Peerenboom; his grandchildren, Jack and Sailor Aldridge, and Knox Peerenboom and Haven Hansbury; and his brothers, Kenny (Peggy) Peerenboom, Jerry (Sonja) Peerenboom, and David Peerenboom, along with their families, including many nieces and nephews whom he loved.
Though his passing leaves a profound emptiness, Joe’s gentle humor, steady presence, and unwavering love will continue to guide the people who loved him. His legacy lives on in the family he adored and in the quiet ways he shaped their lives.
