Joy Keller Phipps

Joy Keller Phipps passed away at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home on December 26, 2023. Joy was born in Marion, NC, on May 20, 1944, to Rev. Roy Dixon Keller and Lillian Mae Odom Keller. Joy graduated from Apex High School in 1961, after which she attended Mars Hill College and then graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1965. She worked for the City of Winston-Salem, retiring from the position of Senior Adult Activities Supervisor. Joy’s passion was serving the Lord. She identified herself as “God’s Minute-Man” and made herself available to pray for, or with, whomever the Lord would send, any time of day or night. She was equally generous in serving those in need with her home, financial resources, and any other goods at her disposal. Most of all she was always there for her family, whom she loved deeply. Joy’s favorite pastimes were gardening and watching the animals, both wild and domestic, in and around her beloved home. She often would have a fun story to tell about their antics. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lillian Keller. She is survived by her children, Harold Phipps of Winston-Salem, Amy Phipps Smith (Tim) of Tracy, CA, and Michael Phipps of Winston-Salem; her grandson, Silas Lindsey of Winston-Salem; her brother, Paul Keller (Marguerite) of Salisbury; and her nephews, Joseph Keller of Salisbury and Daniel Keller (Christian) of Garner. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC. The family is grateful for all expressions of support. If you wish to make a cash donation in lieu of flowers, please consider one of the following charities: Kate B.
