Juanita Carmichael, 94, joined the angels in heaven on December 20, 2023. She was born May 13, 1929, in Winston-Salem, NC and lived in Rural Hall, NC until moving to Arbor Acres in Winston-Salem, NC.  She is preceded in death by her parents Victor and Myrtle Ramsey, her in-laws Raymond and Miriam Carmichael and her husband of 69 years, Azariah Gray Carmichael, Sr.  Juanita was a devout daughter, sister, daughter-in-law, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great grandmother always guided by her faith.  She was an active member of the Rural Hall Baptist Church and later the Rural Hall Moravian Church where she sang in the choir, was a member of the Saints Alive Sunday school class and the Women’s Fellowship; she also worked tirelessly for many years as church treasurer.  She served the needy of her community as a volunteer for Hope Pregnancy Care Center and Crisis Control Ministry as well as regularly visiting the sick and homebound.  Juanita began her career at Wachovia Bank and worked at Hanes Corporation before settling at Commercial and Farmers Bank of Rural Hall (now First Citizens.)  She loved singing, square dancing, reading, socializing with friends and family, and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Her cooking skills were outstanding.  She was caring and loving, always putting others’ needs above her own.  Her beautiful smile and spirit will be missed by her family, her church, and her dear friends. Surviving are her daughter Vicki Carmichael (Ira Mogitz) of Hollywood, FL, son Azariah “Mike” Gray Carmichael Jr. (Linda) of Elgin, SC, grandchildren Katherine Medlin (Luke) of Elgin, SC , Ashley Kelley (Justin) of Columbia, SC and Justin Carmichael (Lylan) of McKinney, TX; great-grandchildren Sadie, Bailey, Maggie and Anthony Medlin, Azariah Carmichael and Isabelle and Jackson Kelley as well as her best friend and beloved sister Dorothy Caudle (Hassell) of Rural Hall.  She is also survived by nieces and nephews Dennis Caudle (Jeannie), Kevin Caudle (Dawn), Annette Purdue (Gerald), Beth Connaughton (Mike), Kaye Carter (Ron) and Faye Calder (Jim) as well as brothers-in-law Bobby Joe Carmichael and Querrander Carmichael (Nancy). Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Luke Medlin officiating. Interment will follow at Rural Hall Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hope Pregnancy Care Center, P.O. Box 604, King NC, Crisis Control 200 East Tenth Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101, and Rural Hall Moravian Church.
