Juanita "Nita" Lackey

Ms. Juanita ""Nita"" Thomas Lackey, 88, passed away early Tuesday morning at Abbots Creek Center in Lexington, NC where she has lived and received quality care for the past 22 months following a stroke.
She was born in Iredell County on September 2, 1925 to William S. and Mabel Baity Thomas, Sr. She lived in Statesville, NC where she attended Statesville High School and then lived the majority of her life in Winston-Salem, NC where she was a wife and Homemaker. Nita was a member of Ardmore United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Post 55 in Winston-Salem. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining, dancing and spending time with friends and Family. Loving all her grand and great grandchildren, she had a very special relationship with her granddaughter Lisa.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her ex-husband and longtime friend William Ray Lackey, and infant son Mark Timothy Lackey, her sisters Hilda (Took) Westmoreland and Dot Lee and a grandson, Scott Lackey. Also passing before her were two dear friends, Dixie Houston and Opal Walker.
Survivors include three sons, William T. Lackey and wife Dorothy Cook (Dot) of Blythewood, SC, Randall S. Lackey and wife Abigail Williams (Abby) of Kensington, MD and Keith F. Lackey and wife Thomasina Stikeleather (Sina) of Waxhaw, NC; one daughter Kim L. Honeycutt and husband Walter (Bo) of Lexington, NC; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and one brother William S. Thomas, Jr. of Wilkesboro, NC.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Ardmore United Methodist Church with Rev. Jock Ollis officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville, NC.
