Juanita Spry Routh went home to be with her Savior on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
She was a precious soul to many over her 90 years on Earth. Juanita was known for her honest and feisty spirit that guided her family and friends toward Christ. She was a resident of Forsyth County most of her life but was born in Salisbury, NC, on January 6, 1935. Juanita retired from Amp Incorporated in Winston-Salem, NC.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles, coloring, reading, kissing her grandkids' faces, hugs, reading greeting cards in the aisles of Walgreens and laughing out loud, late night Christmas shopping at Walmart, eating shrimp at Mayflower after church on Sundays, taking multiple family members and friends into her home to recover from hard times, attending sporting events for her children and grandchildren, the Omega House restaurant, and scratching a few lottery tickets every once in a while.
Juanita was a long-time member of Woodland Baptist Church. She served the Lord in many capacities, including establishing the roots of several churches in Panama in the 1960s, a great prayer warrior for her family, and a sitter for elderly patients in their homes after retirement.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, William Anderson and Lula Spry; sisters, Mae Spry and Ruth Gibson; and brother, Harvey Spry. She is survived by one sister, Jean Hilton of Lexington; and four children, Carol “Susie” Kelly (Ed) of Kernersville, Connie Knight (Barry) of Winston-Salem, Josh Routh (Teresa) of Wake Forest, and Michael Routh (Tammi) of Winston-Salem. She was known simply as “Mamaw” to everyone, including her 12 grandchildren, Candy Annas, Wendy Pendergraph, Christy Wykes, Sara Ralph, Shannon Chamblee, Amy Ralph, Amanda Brooks, Timmy Knight, Chelsea Neal, Colby Willard, Justin Routh, and Darren Routh; as well as multiple great and great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. A homegoing service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at Hanes Baptist Church, 4210 Sabrina Lake Rd, Winston-Salem, NC.
Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family.
