Judy Fishel Joyce, of Winston-Salem, wife of Robert Franklin Joyce, died Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at her home. Judy was born November 14, 1946. She was the oldest daughter of the late Sanford H. Fishel Jr. and Ruby Sink Fishel. She was the granddaughter of the late S.H. Fishel Sr. and Jennie Brewer Fishel, and the late Clyde and Ethel Mae Sink. Judy grew up on Fishel Road and attended Griffith High School where she played the flute in the band. She was a member of the last graduating class of Griffith High in 1965 and attended Forsyth Technical College. Judy was a dental assistant to Dr. John R. Williams. Since 1973 she was the owner and operator of the NC License Plate Agency in Kernersville and she served several years as the State President of the NC License Plate Association. Judy was a member of the Democrat Women of Forsyth County and was proud to be, as she always said, ""a Christian, woman, and Democrat."" Judy served 24 years on the Forsyth County Library Board and was privileged to have helped pass the bond referendum for the new library during her last term on the Board. Judy was a member of Friedberg Moravian Church and taught Sunday School at both Friedberg Moravian Church and Morris Chapel Methodist Church. She was one of the founding members of the Logos Program at Friedberg. She played the flute in the Friedberg band and played piano for the Sunday School opening. Judy is survived by her devoted husband and life-long companion of 46 years, Robert F. Joyce. She was the mother of two sons, Jason Franklin Joyce and wife Felicia of Mouth of Wilson, VA and Jarrett Henry Joyce of Winston Salem, NC. She was the grandmother of Jason Franklin Joyce II, Eli Henry Joyce, Luke Robert Joyce, Benjamin Roy Joyce, and Kathleen Dawn Joyce. She was the loved sister of Sanford H. Fishel III (Debbie) of Grassy Creek, NC; Patricia Fishel Atkins of Winston Salem; and Angela Fishel Honeycutt (Robert) of Raleigh, NC. Judy was the sister-in-law of Kathy Joyce Robertson (John) of Advance, NC and Stephen Wesley Joyce (Joyce) of Kernersville, NC. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends whom she loved deeply. Judy also leaves her devoted little dog, Mizzie. Judy endured many years of illness, fighting a major knee injury, scoliosis, heart issues, and most recently her battle with breast and lung cancer. Through it all she fought & lived life her way, as she had always done with humor, wit, and determination. Judy would like to thank all her employees, Debbie, Karen, Traci, Renee, Kim, and Nikki for their years of dedicated service. Her family would like to express gratitude to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home and the Derek Davis Cancer Center and all the nurses who cared for her, and a special thank you to Dr. Pat Stuart for his care. Special thanks and gratitude to Melissa, Kasey, Hallie, Connie, and Rachel who cared for her at home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:00pm on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Friedberg Moravian Church with the Rev. Jimmy Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 3:00pm - 4:00pm Saturday at the church prior to the service.
