Justin Charles Douthit, 33, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
He was born in Greenville, SC, the son of the late Charles Edward “Butch” Douthit and Delana “Laney” Collins Douthit.
Justin was known as a friend to anyone who met him. One of his favorite quotes by ND Wilson from Death by Living embodied how he lived life: “Lay your life down. Your heartbeats cannot be hoarded. Your reservoir of breaths is draining away. You have hands, blister them while you can. You have bones, make them strain—they can carry nothing in the grave. You have lungs, let them spill with laughter…Drink your wine. Laugh from your gut. Burden your moments with thankfulness. Be as empty as you can be when that clock winds down. Spend your life. And if time is a river, may you leave a wake.”
His love for others was evident in all that he did. From ministering to the families of Christ Covenant Church in Greensboro through the children’s ministry to sharing his unending joy as he led his team at Carroll Companies, Justin personified the love of Christ through every interaction.
Feeding people was Justin’s mission. He fed his family practically as he made breakfast early every morning and figuratively as he fed their souls with the word of God. He fed his friends through joyous weekly dinners where hymns rang out and soul-sharpening conversations were enjoyed paired with rich meals and the smell of tobacco. And he fed strangers as he invited all he met to join him at the table to feel welcome and to taste and see that the Lord is good.
He is survived by his wife, Mackenzie M. “Kenzie” Douthit; and his five beautiful children, Fletcher Stone Douthit, Gryffin Loch Douthit, Huxton Storm Douthit, Idalia Ember Douthit, and Juniper Sage Douthit. He is also survived by his mother, Delana C. Douthit; his sister, Dana D. Antisell (Carl); nephew, Liam; niece, Lilly; and many wonderful friends.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2024, at Christ Covenant Church in Greensboro, NC, with Pastor Rob Dykes officiating. Burial will follow at 5:00 p.m. at Thistle Dew Cemetery in Rural Hall, NC.
