Karen Preston

Ms. Karen Leigh Williams Preston, 67, went to be with the Lord December 7, 2017. She passed away peacefully at her home following an extended illness. Karen was born October 18, 1950 to Rodger K. Williams (originally of Robbins, NC) and Rosalie K. Williams of Kernersville. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Kernersville, though she had not attended there for many years. Karen was a classical pianist and studied classical music at Salem Academy in Winston Salem, and attended Brenau Academy in Gainesville, Ga where she also studied music. She was an undergraduate of Music and Music Therapy at East Carolina University in Greenville, and held a B.S. in Business Administration and Economics from High Point University. Karen possessed a great "gift of gab" that drew people to her and made her successful in her career that included: National Media Buyer for RJR Tobacco Company, Director of Sales for the Hampton Inn, and Director of Sales for the Holiday Inn Select. She also worked many years part-time in sales for Lancôme and Ralph Lauren at Belk of Hanes Mall. Karen was a brave woman who fought for years to stay active despite her illness. She is preceded in death by her mother, Rosalie. Surviving are her loving maltese fur baby, Louie; her father, Rodger of Salisbury; one sister, Kathy (Gary) Webster of Clemmons; one brother, Kris (Sheree) Williams of Kernersville; nephew, Travis Mackie of King; great-nephew Tucker Mackie and great-niece Sienna Mackie; great-niece Samantha (Allen) Steele of Pinnacle. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Lou Valente, PA-C and staff of Cornerstone Healthcare who cared for Ms. Preston for many years, and to Charles Bocholis, DVM and staff of Abri Veterinary Hospital who cared for her maltese babies over many years. A celebration of life gathering for local friends and family will be held at a later date. Memorials can be made to AARF of Winston Salem or the American Lung Association. Hayworth-Miller of Winston-Salem is assisting the family.
