Karen Lee Johnson Williams

Karen Lee Johnson Williams, 65, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illness.

Karen was born on June 2, 1961, at Redstone Arsenal Army Base in Madison County, Alabama, to Ramona Rominger Johnson and the late William "Kermit" Johnson. In addition to her father, Karen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Wayne Williams; her infant twin brother, Kermit Johnson, Jr.; and her parents-in-law, Ruth and Wayne Williams.

Karen graduated from Parkland High School. After graduation, she worked for a short time in banking before beginning a remarkable 43-year career with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Karen loved telling the story of how she began by sweeping floors in the manufacturing facilities. Through hard work, dedication, and humility, she eventually retired as the Executive Assistant to the CEO of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company—a journey she was incredibly proud of.

Karen was a faithful member of Hanes Baptist Church. The very week she became ill, she was preparing to serve in Vacation Bible School. Her faith in Jesus Christ began as a young girl and was evident throughout her life in the way she loved and served others.

A servant's heart is not measured by grand gestures, but by the quiet ways it makes others feel seen, loved, and remembered. That is exactly how Karen lived. Whether through a handwritten card that arrived at just the right moment, an encouraging word, or simply being the loyal friend who could always be counted on, she reflected the love of Christ in countless acts of kindness.

Karen never sought recognition for what she did. She simply loved people well. Her faith was evident in the way she served with humility, compassion, and generosity. The cards she faithfully sent were more than paper and ink—they were reminders that someone cared, someone was praying, and someone had not been forgotten.

Her friendship was a gift. Her loyalty never wavered. Her servant's heart leaves a legacy that will continue to inspire everyone who was blessed to know her. She truly lived the words of Jesus:

"Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant." — Mark 10:43

Karen's greatest joy in life was being Larry's wife. Anyone who knew Karen and Larry knew they shared one of the greatest love stories. They began dating when they were just 15 years old and married shortly after high school. Together they shared a love for muscle cars, car shows, and racing. They also shared a deep compassion for animals, often adopting strays or helping them find loving homes. Karen modeled Christ-like love in her marriage. Larry always came first, and the devotion they shared was evident to everyone around them.

Along with her mother, Karen leaves behind her brother-in-law, Hank Williams, and his wife, Angie Williams, whom Karen often called "the sister I never had." Following Larry's passing, Karen, Angie, and Hank faithfully spent every Saturday together, creating treasured memories that will forever be cherished.

She is also survived by her niece, Kristen Williams (Chase); her nephews, Robbie Williams, and Josh Blackburn (Lyndsey); her great-nephews, Walker Williams, and Shawn Williams; and a very special great-niece, Kallie, who never wanted her Aunt Karen far from her sight. Karen also leaves behind her beloved fur babies, Madie and Bella, who will continue to be loved and cared for.

Karen entered the arms of Jesus surrounded by her "Tribe of Five"—Kim Blevins, Tange Link, Tamera Tuttle, Carla Watkins, and Angie Williams. Though our hearts are broken, we rejoice knowing she has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant." (Matthew 25:23)

May her memory continue to encourage others to love faithfully, serve selflessly, and point people to Christ, just as she did.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Parklawn Memorial Park, with Pastor Jason Holley of Hanes Baptist Church officiating.
