Karla Bernice O'Maille

Karla Bernice (Reed) O’Maille, 48, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2020, due to injuries sustained in a tragic automobile accident that also took the life of her son, Adam Tuathal O’Maille.

She was born on February 24, 1971, in Bangor, Maine to William and Karolyn (Wagner) Reed. Karla grew up in a military family, and as such, she lived in a variety of locations. During high school she joined the Civil Air Patrol program and enjoyed running track. Her family moved to Marietta, Ohio for her senior year of high school where she graduated in 1989. Following high school, her involvement in Civil Air Patrol continued. She rose to the rank of Captain and served as the WV Wing Director of Cadet Programs. In 2006, Karla earned a Business Degree from Washington State Community College. Over the years, she held a variety of jobs. She worked at WTAP as a floor camera operator, a graphics operator, and eventually master control operator.  She also worked for H&R Block as a tax consultant, and later as a car salesperson for Flow Automotive in North Carolina. However, the job she loved most was that of being a mother. Karla’s love for her children was evident for all to see, and she strove daily to follow the biblical example found in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Karla accepted the Lord as her personal savior when she was a little girl, and then rededicated her life to Christ in 2015. She and her children were active members at Grace Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC. You didn’t have to be around Karla long before hearing her say something that indicated her strong faith in the Lord. From gentle reminders to pray about our concerns, to confident assurances that God is in control, you could count on Karla to help you keep your focus exactly where it should be, on God.

Karla is survived by her parents William and Karolyn Reed; her grandfather William Reed, Sr.; 4 of her children, Krystal Dawn Strickland, Nathan Strickland, Kaszey O’Maille, and Eamon O’Maille; her 4 sisters and their husbands, Krystal & Kenneth Martin, Kymberli & Gregg Martin, Keryn & Dwayne Miller, Kandyss & Christopher Bryant; her brother and his wife H. Ed & Jennifer Reed; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 8, 2020, at Grace Baptist Church, 3305 Peters Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM – 12:45 PM, at the church. Interment will follow the service at Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
