Katherine Hege Rierson

Katherine Elizabeth Hege Rierson was born in 1929 to Jacob Gilbert Hege and Sarah Josephine Fishel Hege of Forsyth County, North Carolina. On January 8, 2017, Katherine went to sleep on earth and awoke in heaven with her Savior. Surviving are husband, Richard D. Rierson, Sr. of Winston-Salem; son, Richard D. Rierson, Jr. and wife, Jodie of Charlotte; daughter, Carolyn R. Carpenter and husband, Ken of Lewisville. She had three grandchildren of whom she was very proud: Joshua Rierson and wife, Laura of Matthews; Capt. Andrew Carpenter and wife, Katelyn of Fort Lee, VA; and Lindsay Carpenter of Charlotte. Early in her life Katherine was active in Advent Moravian Church, teaching primary Sunday School and leading the Senior High Youth Fellowship with Richard, where they had significant, positive influences in their community. In recent years, she was an active member in Konnoak Hills Moravian. Also among Katherine's passions were flowers and fruit gardening, baking, sewing and tailoring, and capturing nature's beauty in her artwork. Katherine attended Greensboro College and was a graduate of UNC-G, earning a bachelor's degree in home economics education. For over 35 years she taught and held leadership roles in both the NC Extension Homemakers Association and Forsyth Technical Community College. The family would like to thank Brookridge Retirement Community for their care of Katherine, whom they lovingly called ""Peanut."" In lieu of flowers, donations are kindly referred to the Sunnyside Ministry, Moravian Church. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 13, 2017, at Konnoak Hills Moravian Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting to family of Mrs. Rierson.
