Early on the 8th of October, The Lord received Kathleen Dellinger Moose. She passed peacefully at a local hospice with her children present.
Kathleen was the only child of Walter G. Dellinger and his wife Mabel in Conover, North Carolina. She graduated from Newton-Conover High School in 1944 and received her BA in Chemistry in 1948 at Woman's College, University of North Carolina (now UNCG). She worked in Durham, NC, at Duke Medical Center. After two years as a chemist in the Blood Lab, she moved back to Newton-Conover and taught math and science at Rock Springs High School in Denver, NC. In December of 1951, she married Lt. Robert M. Moose, USAF, in 1951 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Conover.
As an Air Force Officer's wife, Kathleen followed her husband wherever he was stationed, from Texas to Florida, California (where her daughter was born), England (where her son was born), Kansas, North Dakota, Arkansas, Thailand, and South Carolina. In 1971, her husband retired from the US Air Force, and they settled down to Winston-Salem, NC.
In 1975, when her husband went to Wake Forest Law School, Kathleen joined him in social events with his law fraternity. Throughout their years in Winston-Salem, Kathleen and her husband were active in their church, St. John’s Lutheran Church. For many years, she served on the alter guild and occasionally taught a bible study class. For 12 years, she was her husband's secretary and typist in his law practice until he had to retire. She nursed him for most of his remaining years until he passed away a few weeks after their 50th wedding anniversary.
Both Kathleen and her husband had a passion for the game of bridge. Even in her final weeks, she played cards with her son and daughter every afternoon until dinner time.
She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Nelson (Ted) and son, Robert Moose and his wife. She is survived by grandchildren: Walter Burney (Jennifer), Brian Burney (Regan), and Gina Verrault. She is survived by great-grandchildren: Taleigh Verrault, Hannah Burney, Sarah Burney, Lila Burney, Marlee Verrault, Nora Burney, and Matthew Burney. She was greatly loved by all and will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
A funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller, Silas Creek Chapel. Burial will take place 3 PM Saturday, at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Conover, NC.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
