Kathryn "Kathy" Elizabeth Pfaff Long, 74, entered into the more immediate presence of her Lord and Savior on July 29, 2025, at her home in Winston-Salem. Born to Herbert Flavius Pfaff Jr. and Rachel Booze Pfaff of Tobaccoville, Kathy was a lifelong Forsyth County resident. She served in the accounting department at Hanes for 32 years, also briefly working for BB&T and other banks before her retirement.
Raised tomboy tough on a poultry farm as the middle of three children, Kathy devoted her life to her family and the church. Her love of music became one of her callings, and her involvement in the music program at Mizpah Moravian Church spanned six decades. Kathy served as choir director at Mizpah, sang in the Moramus Chorale performance group and played in the church's band and handbells ensembles.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Charles Thomas Long Sr., and her parents. Kathy is survived by two sons, Charles "Chuck" Long Jr. and his wife, Julie Allred Long, and Derek Long and his wife, Sandy Rodriguez; two special grandchildren, Rachel and Peyton Long; sister Judy Pfaff Albert and her husband, Eddie; and brother Herbert Charles Pfaff and husband Bob Irish.
The family will receive visitors Friday, Aug. 1 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 2 at Mizpah Moravian Church in Rural Hall at 11 a.m., with a graveside ceremony to follow.
