Kathy Lynn Hawkins (formerly Meenach) was born on March 31, 1953, the only child of L.B. Hawkins and Margaret Carter Hawkins, died unexpectedly, but peacefully, at her home on September 20, 2025. Kathy was a graduate of North Forsyth High School, class of 1971, and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a degree in Criminal Justice. After college, she worked at the North Carolina Department of Mental Health in Butner, NC. From 1980-1992, she was a Juvenile Detective with the Forsyth County Sherrif’s Department. From 1992-2008, she worked for the NC DMV as an Inspector of Enforcement and then as a Inspector in the License and Theft Bureau. Kathy retired in 2008. She had a tremendous love of children, working as a Youth Leader at Kingswood Methodist Church in Rural Hall and later at New Day Church in High Point. Her love of children continued in retirement as a substitute teacher for Forsyth County Schools, the last few years at Gibson Elementary School. Kathy was a faithful Christian wherever she worshipped, most recently at Reynolda Church, King campus, where she loved on babies in the nursery, attended Bible Studies and the ladies group, volunteered monthly at King Outreach stocking shelves, and sat on the front row in Sunday worship. Kathy was active in the Republican party, volunteering at every election, most recently as a judge in the Rural Hall election. She will be greatly missed by friends and family, who loved her and are still in shock of her sudden death. The messages pouring out of love for her continue coming in. Surviving is her granddaughter, who was the love of her Mamaw’s life, Jaide Wirth and Jaide’s brothers, Jhett and Jacoby, her aunt, Linda Hawkins Nelson, her special friend, Larry Murphy and many Hawkins and Carter cousins, along with numerus friends, colleagues and neighbors. She was preceded in death y her beloved son, Robert Meenach, her grandson, Jackson Antone Meenach (she only had about three months to love on him) and her parents L.B. Hawkins, Jr. and Margaret Carter Hawkins. Funeral services celebrating Kathy’s life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Chuck Estes officiating. Burial will follow in Rural Hall Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gibson Elementary School or to the Nursery at Reynolda Church, King campus.
