Katie Lee "Kay" Steelman Corriher, age 90, passed away peacefully in her home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on June 20, 2026. Kay was born on November 29, 1935, in Jonesville, North Carolina, to the late Wilson and Juanita Baity Steelman.
Kay loved basketball and proudly played for the historic Hanes Hosiery women's basketball team. Later in life, she dedicated herself to public safety, and one of her proudest accomplishments was serving her community as a deputy with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Department.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents and her older sister, Billie Steelman Talley.
Kay’s love lives on through the family she leaves behind. She is survived by her brother, Tony Wilson Steelman; her three children, Gary Corriher, Robin Corriher, and Chuck Corriher; and her three grandchildren, Sara Beth Corriher Johnson (husband Chris), Sasha Lopez, and Robbie Corriher (wife Elizabeth). She was also the proud great-grandmother to Salem, Hazel, Lily, Lila, Lydia, Owen, and Caleb.
In accordance with her wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Instead, family and friends are invited to a celebration of life, which will take place during the first weekend of July.
