Mr. Kemper Lee Kiger, 91, went to meet his Lord and Savior Thursday, July 26, 2018. He was born January 8, 1927 in Forsyth county to the late Oscar Lee Kiger and Bealie Baker Kiger. Kemp adored his children, grandchildren and especially his wife, Maxine, with whom he had just celebrated his 67th wedding anniversary. He exemplified love, generosity, commitment and a faith in God that touched and influenced many lives. Kemp fought an unforgiving illness to the end with dignity and determination and took back control with strength in the final day of his life. We are blessed to have walked this life with this servant of God and hold to the faith that we will see him again soon. He was an active lifetime member of Kingswood United Methodist Church and the Rural Hall community, where he held several positions throughout his life. Kemp attended UNC - Chapel Hill and while there enlisted in the United States Navy for a term before returning to Chapel Hill to receive his BS degree in Accounting in 1949. After college he worked for the IRS and Wilson Brothers Lumber Company before pursuing a career in banking which began in 1956 with Commercial & Farmers Bank. In 1974 Kemp was named President of the bank and held this position until 1981. At which time, Commercial & Farmers Bank merged with First Citizens Bank and he was named Senior VP. In addition to his parents Kemp is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Dewey Harris and son-in-law, Grant Darnell. He is survived by the love of his life, Maxine Kiger; his daughter Teresa Farmer (Jim), their children Benjamin Farmer (Allyson) and Stephanie Farmer; his daughter Krista Kiger, her daughter Rachel Kiger; his son Alan Kiger (Monica), their children Kemper Kiger (Christy) and Garrett Kiger; his sister, Ivah Harris, and her children, Bryan Harris and Todd Harris (Donna). A memorial service will be conducted 2:30 PM Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Kingswood United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
