Mr. Kenneth Ashburn, 85, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born February 10, 1927 in Surry Co. to the late Samuel Roscoe Ashburn and Sudie Cline Ashburn. Kenneth was retired from Greyhound Bus Lines as a driver with 35 years of service. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Stanleyville and a member of Masonic Lodge #289 in Winston-Salem. Kenneth proudly served our country in the US Navy during WWII on a destroyer escort ship. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Mitchell and Ruby Key and five brothers, Conrad Ashburn, Eugene Ashburn, S.R. Ashburn, Herbert Ashburn and Howard Ashburn. He is survived by his wife, Winnifred E. Ashburn of the home, a son, Terry Ashburn and wife Sandra of Rural Hall, a daughter, Teresa Paschal and husband Michael of Cary, NC, 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a brother, Samuel Odell Ashburn and wife Bonnie Sue of Rural Hall. Kenneth is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 19, 2012 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Pastor Eddie Honeycutt and Pastor Terry Rausch officiating. Entombment will follow Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to; First Baptist Church of Stanleyville Building Fund, 851 Ziglar Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27105 or Hospice and Palliative Care Center, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
