Major General Kenneth E. Dohleman, U.S. Army, Ret., 92, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, NC.  He was born on September 16, 1926 to Elsie (Baughman) and Robert Dohleman and grew up on a farm near Cayuga, IL. He graduated from Pontiac, IL Township High School in 1944 as Valedictorian of his class.  Ken was inducted into the Army on December 4, 1944. Despite his intention to serve "for the duration of the war plus six months,'' he was commissioned as an infantry officer in 1946 and served until retirement as a Major General in August 1983. As an Infantry officer, his assignments included four tours in Korea and one each in Vietnam, Dominican Republic, Alaska, Japan and Germany. He was assigned for eight years in and around Washington DC and retired there. For most of his 39 years in the Army, he was a trainer: teaching young soldiers how to fight, to stay alive and how to win. He met his wife, Anna Masek (known to friends as Anne), "in the line of duty" when she was a secretary at Fort Riley, Kansas. They were married on 17 May 1953. She accompanied her husband on every assignment permitted by Army regulations, which included 21 moves. In 1956, while stationed in Germany, son, Thomas Joseph joined the family. In retirement in Northern Virginia for 20 years, he was an avid volunteer in the community, where he organized and directed a neighborhood watch program, served on various committees and was a precinct captain for elections. At the state level, he served as a Marriage Celebrant. He also served his church, as a Eucharistic Minister, lector and chairman of numerous committees. In 2004, he and Anne moved to Bermuda Village Retirement Community in Davie County, North Carolina. She passed away in 2010. In this new community, he served on the Bermuda Run Planning and Zoning Commission and on committees with Bermuda Village. In 2015, he married Doris Maccharulo, who caught his eye when she glided into the Bermuda Village community. She passed away in 2016. From this union, he gained two daughters, Doreen and Susan. Ken devoted his adult life serving others and our country. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Anna and Doris; and a brother, Gordon. He is survived by son, Thomas; daughters, Susan Hunsinger-Cannon and Doreen Nesbit; sister, Annette Finley and brother, Keith Dohleman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM,  Friday, November 30, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church.  The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.  General Dohleman will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.  Memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Ln., Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel is assisting the family. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com
