Kenneth Garr

Mr. Kenneth Norville Garr, 84, passed away after an unexpected illness. Kenneth was born in Louisville, Ky to Albert Zenier and Nadine Elizabeth Stickler Garr.  He attended Southern High School in Louisville Ky. His first job was helping his older brother in the family painting business.  He served in the US Navy for 22 years as a STGCS Sonar Technician Instructor. A considerable amount of that time was spent in the Mediterranean. After retirement, he was employed at AT&T and BellSouth. He preferred to be productive involving himself in projects. He instilled in his children a strong work ethic which he demonstrated daily.  As a former member and administrator of the Winston-Salem Moose Lodge number 466 he developed many close friendships. Our precious father was a remarkable man of character, quality, morals, ethics, and common sense, with a soft-spoken demeanor.  He had a servant’s heart, rarely said no and was known for his generosity. His greatest joy in life was his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He got together with family often, loved to travel, work on puzzles and numbers.  He enjoyed playing golf with his son James, tending his garden, sharing clippings and pictures of his beautiful flowers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Barbara Ann Campbell Garr, (the original Barbie and Ken) his brothers George, Johnny, Donnie & sister Gladys Garr Thompson, grandsons Adam Garr & Justyn Uhl. Surviving are his loving children Kimberly Fitz (Mark) of Rockledge Florida, Judi Uhl (David) of Pfafftown, Theresa Garr of Winston Salem, James Garr (Jacqueline) of Pilot Mountain. 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren. One brother Jim Garr and sister Linda Pardieu of Louisville, KY. The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM on Sunday, April 2, 2023, at Hayworth Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the funeral service immediately after at 4 PM. Reverend Mike Haynes will officiate. Interment will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday April 4 at Salisbury National Cemetery. He will continue to give back to humanity through the donation of his brain for research. The family would appreciate donations in the name of Kenneth Norville Garr to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation, 290 Turnpike Road, Suite 5-315 Westborough, MA. 01581.
