Kenneth Ray Hartman

Kenneth Ray Hartman, 81, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 31, 2025 after a lengthy illness.

Ken was born on January 1, 1944, to the late Brantley H. Hartman and Hazel Scott Hartman in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Ken was known for his warm laugh, quick wit, and an unwavering ability to find joy in the moment.

A proud alumnus of Oak Ridge Military Academy, Ken remained deeply connected to the school throughout his life, later serving on its Board of Trustees.

Ken had a deep love for the Tar Heels, playing pool, music, and was an avid woodworker. He enjoyed long days on the golf course, adventures through travel, and nights on the dance floor.

Those who knew Ken will remember his love of a good joke and his easy laughter. He brought light and humor to every gathering and never met a stranger he didn’t try to make smile.

In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his brothers: Brantley “Bub” H. Hartman, Jr. and Michael "Mickey" Hartman; and sisters, Norma Yountz and Joan Dize.

Ken is survived by his wife, Cherryl Lazenby Hartman and his three children: Marty Edwards, Mark Sams, Scott Sams (Donna); four grandchildren: Zack Edwards; Sara, Emma, and Andrew Sams; and sister, Wanda Walker.

A visitation for the public will be held from 12-2 PM, Friday, August 15, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family will gather for a private graveside service following the visitation.
