Mr. Kenneth “Ken” Bert Quintal, 85, of Salem Glen, Clemmons, NC passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024. He was born August 25, 1938 in Ossining, Westchester County, NY to Joseph Pestana Quintal and Julia Loretta Totten Quintal.
Ken was a graduate of Ossining High School where he excelled in athletics including football, baseball and especially basketball. He attended Miami of Ohio University. He joined the Marine Corps in 1958 where he was recognized for his superior marksmanship. He was an avid fan of the Red Sox and the New York Giants and enjoyed playing golf. He was an active member of St. Augustine’s Church in Ossining and was a current member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Judith M. Quintal and a brother, Joseph Quintal and his wife, Alice. Surviving is his beloved wife of 45 years, he called “My Pretty Lady”, Janet Brown Quintal; three nieces, Kimberly Vargo (Peter), Lisa Lobdell (Tim) and Amy Lamash (Marc), as well as a great nephew, Joseph Harrison and a great niece, Rachael Harrison, all of whom he loved dearly. Also surviving are his cousins, Sylvia Douglas, Joseph Fiorito, Carol Delaney and Chrissie Martin. He also will be missed by his many longtime friends too numerous to mention.
He was an outgoing and kind man, with an infectious grin and a tremendous sense of humor. He was a very generous man always willing to help those in need. He also donated generously to a number of service organizations, including Catholic Charities, The Humane Society and others. Together with his wife, he was especially generous to Chestnut Hill College donating to numerous Capital Campaigns and fundraising efforts over many years and established a scholarship (The Brown-Quintal Scholarship) in memory of both his & her fathers to be used to help students needing financial assistance.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 11 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 4820 Kinnamon Road, Clemmons, NC with Rev. James Stuhrenberg officiating. Interment will follow in the columbarium on the grounds followed by a reception and celebration of life at Salem Glen Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brown-Quintal Scholarship at Chestnut Hill College, Office of Institutional Advancement, 9601 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19118 or a charity of your choice.
