Kenneth Richard Larsen, 81, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024, at his home in Clemmons, NC.
Ken was born on August 16, 1942, in Colville, WA to the late Harold Roy Larsen and Pearl Wagner Larsen. He grew up on the family dairy farm near Douglas Falls where he developed his passion for fly fishing and his sweet tooth for goodies. Ken also enjoyed playing baseball at Colville High School where he graduated in 1960. After high school, he moved to Seattle, WA to pursue further education which was paused when he was drafted and inducted into the USMC Reserves in 1964 and served in reserve with the 4th Shore Party Battalion of the 4th Marine Division at NAS Seattle, reaching the rank of Sergeant. Ken went on to study and find his work passion in commercial HVAC, enjoying the variety of building projects and locations in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and Guam. He was a member of several HVAC organizations and served as an advisor to the Seattle Community College HVAC program.
Ken married Bridgett Ann (Wright) Larsen, his wife of 52 years, in 1971. Together they built a house in Redmond, WA (which Ken designed) and lived there for over 20 years. It was in the “Redmond House” that they welcomed and raised their two sons, Scott and Eric. After a few more moves, Ken and Bridgett eventually followed their sons to North Carolina and settled in the Greensboro area in 2000 where they opened their own HVAC business which they ran until they retired. Ken did not like to sit still and continued to work part time even after they moved into assisted living mid 2023, alternately reviewing construction drawings to prepare quotes and diligently studying the Bible Studies for his online discipleship group at his home office desk until the day he passed. Ken maintained a lifelong love of flyfishing, baseball, maple bars, and coffee and loved sharing these with his family even more.
Ken became a follower of Jesus when he was an adult, and his faith became an important part of his life. He and Bridgett were members of different church congregations throughout their lives, most recently of Lawndale Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC, where Ken served as a deacon.
In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his sister, Darlene (Larsen) Ervin. He is survived by his wife Bridgett, his sons Scott (Paula) and Eric (Rhonda), and his six grandchildren Katja, Tyler, Henry, Shaun, Zachary, and Zoey.
