Kenneth Younger Welborn

Kenneth Younger Welborn, 96, a true southern gentleman, died January 29, 2016. He was born April 28, 1919 on a tobacco farm in Ronda and was next to the youngest of nine children who have preceded him in death. His parents were Robert J. and Dicy Jane Younger Welborn. After graduation from Ronda High School he continued to work on the farm and the Wilkesboro glass factor until he found the love of driving the tractor trailer truck across the country for fresh produce. He enjoyed going fishing, movies, car racing, and listening to country & western music. He met his wife, Ruby Joanna Anderson at a Pleasant Grove Baptist Church picnic, was happily married for 63 years before her death in 2003. Ken and Ruby were really close with their family and loved them more than anything. They enjoyed going to the beach and taking bus tours. He helped many people, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who wore many hats. He was important to many people and will be fondly remembered by them. He is survived by his daughter, Nellie Sue and husband Frank Young, grandson Philip F. Young; great granddaughter Maya; and many, many, wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Tuesday at the church. Entombment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 3982 Clingman Rd., Ronda, NC 29670 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
