Kim Thanh Benningfield, 83, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina passed away on August 12, 2017. Born and raised in Vietnam, Kim witnessed and survived the French occupation of Indochina, the Japanese invasion of Vietnam in World War II, political and religious unrest, and the Vietnam War. She married her husband Robert Floyd Benningfield, an engineer for Western Electric, in Saigon in 1966. She gave birth to their son in 1967. In 1969, Kim left Saigon with Bob and their child for a strange land, America. Later that year they settled in Winston-Salem. Kim is survived by son Robert Benningfield Jr., daughter-in-law Katherine Benningfield, and grandson Robert Benningfield III; step-daughter Beverly Benningfield and her husband Bill Henderson; sisters Ly Dwyer and Mi Khanh Pham; brothers Binh Pham, Phuoc Pham, and Thanh Pham; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
