Kristopher “Kris” David Atkins, 35, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sunday, June 22, 2025.
He was born in Forsyth County on March 15, 1990, to Kevin Atkins and Lisa Shelton Atkins.
Kris is a man whose impact on others cannot be described. He was intelligent and knowledgeable, especially when it came to livestock and antiques. Many would describe Kris as a man with an old soul, and a young heart. He lived each day to the fullest and found himself asking for forgiveness instead of permission in many instances. He was proud of the life he built for himself, his wife, and his children on the farm they tended to. Kris was a chicken enthusiast and enjoyed teaching the kids about the animals and entering them into show bird competitions. When he wasn’t in the yard tending to the garden or caring for the animals, you could find Kris at the beach, the mountains, golfing, and fishing, particularly shark fishing. He was most definitely the outdoors type, and was always active, even when he was not feeling up to it.
More than anything, Kris was a family man. He had deep love and care for every person, and animal, that crossed his path. Kris was his kids’ biggest cheerleader, and spent many hours coaching a volunteering with softball, basketball, and other extracurricular events. Kris will forever be remembered as an exceptional father, husband, uncle, brother, son, and friend. He gave all of himself until he was not physically able to. Kris will be missed immensely.
Kris was preceded in death by a grandmother, Gaynell Shelton; a grandfather, Dave Atkins; as well as two uncles, Keith Atkins and Mike Shelton.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Kayla Atkins; four children, Hayden Bogardus, Cali Watson, Kynsley Atkins, and Kash Atkins; his parents, Kevin and Lisa Atkins; a brother, Shane Atkins (wife, Kayla); nephews, Abel Atkins, and Ezra Atkins; a niece, Everleigh Atkins; grandparents, Cecil Shelton and Leona Atkins; as well as other extended family, and many friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Triad Baptist Church with Pastor Rob Decker officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel.
