Mrs. La Rue Spainhour Crotts, 95, of Winston-Salem, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018.
What a blessing to know that the sufferings of this present world are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us through Jesus Christ. La Rue Spainhour Crotts was born in Tobaccoville, the only daughter of Marvin Mansfield and Eunice Long Spainhour, on October, 22, 1922.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha Crotts Evans, her son, G. Michael Crotts, and his fiancé, Ann Foster, and her granddaughter, Melissa L. Evans. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Crotts, Jr., in 2009, son-in-law, Jerry M. (Marty) Evans, Jr., in 1992, daughter-in-law, Joyce D. Phillips Crotts, in 1996, her brother, Byron A Spainhour, in 2016. She graduated from Reynolds High School in 1939 and married George W. Crotts, Jr., in 1947. He passed away at the home in 2009 as the result of a fall.
Their love and devotion to one another saw them through many years of home construction throughout the county and city, and they were blessed to work with and along beside friends and folks from out of town who were moving to our city looking to buy a new home.
Currently a member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church, La Rue was a long-time member of South Fork Baptist Church. Affectionately known as "Mom Crotts" at church and in the neighborhood, she felt led to serve on numerous committees, as well as to quickly volunteer when called upon. Close to heart was the time spent in the church nursery as a teacher, in the children's department, working in Bible School, as well as helping out in the Youth Department. As long as the church provided homes for furloughing missionaries returning to the States for R&R, it was her joy to help maintain the upkeep where needed.
She always looked for the good in everyone, ready and willing to listen and help those in need. Her compassion and concern for others touched many lives, young and old alike. A trait she learned early in life from a beloved pastor was to "always be a good listener." She chose to make a difference. "Let me make a difference in some small way today, if only through my actions, or the words I chose to say; let me make a difference, let me show someone I care; let me lend a hand to help them know I'm there; let me make a difference that I may not regret the things in life I should have done but just seemed to forget; let me make a difference so when life is through I can say I tried my hardest, Lord, to live my life through You."
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., at Forsyth Memorial Park, Winston-Salem, NC, officiated by Rev. Dr. Worth Green.
