LaCarter Ellis Black

LaCarter Ellis Black was born on June 29, 1967, in Thomasville, North Carolina, and the first born and only son to his parents, Betty Fant Black and the late Russell Ellis Black Jr. He departed this life and into the presence of the Lord on July 2, 2026. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Maso Fant and Mellie Joiner Fant and his paternal grandparents Russell Ellis Black, Sr., and Willie Eddie Craddock Black.

LaCarter was a 1985 graduate of Thomasville High School. After graduation, he went on to work in several job fields until ultimately settling in with K&W Cafeteria, in Winston-Salem, NC. Although his title was that of property manager, he performed various jobs within the company and was a valuable and irreplaceable employee during his tenure. He loved his job, his employees and became very close to the family business. Everyone that knew him truly admired him.

Throughout his fifty-nine years of life, and even during his time of sickness, LaCarter touched the lives of those around him with resilient strength and enduring kindness, qualities that earned him the respect of everyone that knew him. His journey was one of respect, hard work, responsibility, fairness, compassion towards all people, and also compassion to self. LaCarter was a loyal and faithful servant up until the time of his passing and was dedicated to the work of the Lord and to his church. He was baptized in Jesus’ name and filled with the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues. In 2004 LaCarter became a deacon and was ordained during the Church Convocation.

On November 2, 2001, LaCarter married the love of his life, Sharon Yvette Spencer who he affectionately called his “Bride”. The two became ONE and built a solid foundation of marriage in a manner that consistently showed love to each other and gave love with purpose. The plethora of pictures of the two of them and ones with their family and friends always showed happy periods of times and smiling faces!! To this union LaCarter and Sharon were blessed to have two children. He deeply loved and cherished his son Jadon and his daughter Samara. He always delighted in their presence and participated in their lives, wholeheartedly. He also enjoyed and took part in their lively and amusing wittiness, sometimes even getting the ‘best’ out of the cutdowns and jokes. But, even during the times of high spirits and fun, LaCarter made sure to have intentional moments that would have them be attentive to his soft-spoken voice. He taught his children by example and instilled in them the moral and ethical standards he attained during his life and also the ones he received after accepting the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into his heart.

The same examples were also set with his two daughters that were not related by blood but by LOVE. Julie Long and Leslie Allred Yates were those two young women who LaCarter felt privileged and honored to help raise. They always respected his opinions, his wise counsel and outlook on life. They looked at him as a ‘Father Figure’ and he truly was that to them.

LaCarter will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing this extraordinary Man of God. Besides his beautiful ‘Bride’ Sharon Spencer Black, those left to cherish his memories are his son, Jadon Ellis Black and daughter Samara Yvette Black, of the home; his loving mother Betty Fant Black, Thomasville, NC; his one and only loving sister, Tracy Gill (Jeffery), Thomasville, NC; his nephew Tristan (Chantel) Gill, and his two great-nephews Zaire Gill and Zayden Gill, all of Thomasville, NC.
