Mrs. Laphine Fulk “Penny” Brown, 88, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born in Surry Co., the daughter of the late Brady Clarence Fulk and Lalah Golden Fulk. Penny was a longtime member of Beck’s Baptist Church and was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. She loved to cook, always providing a meal to those who were in need. Penny loved to travel and will be remembered for her love of children. She loved her community and church, being involved with many area clubs and organizations. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Lee Brown; her son, Mark Timothy Brown; a sister, Loy Settle and a brother, Benny Fulk. Penny is survived by her husband, John Hamby; a granddaughter, Ashley Thomas (Johnny); two great-grandchildren, Addison and Zachary Thomas; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Brown; a sister, Ledelphia Atwood; and several nieces and nephews. Penny is also survived by a stepdaughter, Pam Carroll and her family. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at Beck’s Baptist Church with Pastor Bobby Vaughn and Pastor David Renegar officiating. Private burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 Monday evening, January 29, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
