Larry Lee Cooper

Larry Lee Cooper, 69, of Winston-Salem, NC passed peacefully in his home the morning of August 5th. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lawrence and Ruth Cooper, brother, Sonny, sisters, Libby and Bunny, son, Todd Tilley, and brother-in-law, Gary Murray.

He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-four years, Shenelia Cooper, brother, Gary Cooper, mother-in-law, Doris Murray, children, Lori Bowman (Kevin), Kristan Moser (JT), grandchildren, Michael Tilley (Amanda), Dillon Tilley (Taylor), Nicolas Tilley, Emily Bowman (Austin), Kaylin Moser, great-grandchildren, Landon, Cooper, Rayson, Maylee, and many special nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, and special loved one, Linda Sapp.

Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all. He was affectionately known by most simply as Papa. He was an avid golfer, lover of Nascar, football, and most other sports, especially those played by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an owner of Cooper Construction, which was a family business started by his father, Lawrence Cooper. He was a human GPS for anywhere in the state of North Carolina.

Larry never met a stranger. You would always find him with a smile and a joyful spirit. Even on his worst days he would tell you, “I’m fine” with a smile on his face. His greatest legacy and gift he gave was the unwavering love he showered upon his family. He truly was the best dad, grandpa, and great grandpa, and he loved his family with a fierceness. He would always say, “there’s no steps in this family,” and he meant it. He loved his family unconditionally and was always present to support them. He was there every moment that was needed, every milestone, every practice, game, race, recital, you name it, from oldest to youngest, he was always there. Most of all, he loved his wife in a way she deserved to be loved, not always perfect, but always steady. The family has a lifetime of stories to treasure and are so grateful for them. The family will be announcing a celebration of life at a later date. Many thanks to special caregiver, Jennifer Markland, and the Trellis Hospice care team.
