Larry Dean Hudson, beloved Dad, Papa, husband, brother, and friend, passed away on October 26,2025.
Larry was born in Surry County on November 25, 1950, to the late Clayton and Virginia Hudson. He was the youngest of 4 siblings, the late Bernard Hudson, Gary Hudson, and his surviving sister Kaye Burch.
Larry was always a hard worker with the mindset that if something needed to be done, he didn’t need to wait for someone else to do it. He met the love of his life, Marilyn Martin Hudson in a tobacco field in 1972. Larry worked at the SqueezeBox in Pilot Mountain. He then sold insurance and worked his way into the car-selling business. After that, he worked at R.J. Reynolds.
Larry cared deeply for his community and his church. He was a board member and President of East Surry Little League from 1996 to 2005. He served as an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church. He was Citizen of the Year for Pilot Mountain in 2002 and was given the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in 2003. Larry was the first inductee into The Pilot Mountain Little League Hall of Fame in 2025 and was recently inducted into the Surry County Sports Ring of Honor. Larry was also an avid baseball fan. He was fortunate enough to visit every baseball park in the US with a group of friends that he adored.
More than anything else, Larry cherished his family. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Martin Hudson of Pilot Mountain, his two children and their spouses, Justin (Andrea) Hudson, of Pilot Mountain, and Meagan (TJ) Parrish, of Smithfield; his grandchildren, who brought so much joy to his life, Braxton Hudson, Maggie Maye Hudson, Addilyn Parrish, Olivia Parrish, Lily Parrish, and Zackary Parrish; his sister and brother-in-law Kaye (Don) Burch of Westfield and sister-in-law Shelva Hudson of Pilot Mountain; nieces Teresa (Marty) Butner, Tonya (Jay) Mozeley, Christy (Brad) McClelland, and nephew Keith (Dana) Burch.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Virginia Hudson; his two brothers, Bernard and Gary Hudson, whom he admired; his nephew, Jeff Burch, and his niece, Jennifer Brim.
Larry’s family will welcome friends and loved ones for a service celebrating his life 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Pilot Mountain. Memorials may be made to The East Surry Little League as well as the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
