Larry Newsom

Mr. Larry Dean Newsom, 74, passed away Friday, September 29, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Forsyth County, September 7, 1943 to the late Clifton Delos Newsom and Kathryn Griffin Newsom. He was preceded in death by a son Ken Newsom; and grandson Darren. Larry was survived by wife of 55 years Candy Newsom; daughter Tammy Newsom Bass and husband Lloyd; brother Tim Newsom and wife Becky; sister Kay Veach and husband Johnny; grandchildren Amanda Newsom, Jonathan Bass and wife Audrey; great grandson William Dotson; and many nieces and nephews. Larry was a graduate of Gray High School and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, after 38 years of service. Larry played and directed the Trinity Moravian band for more than 50 years, until his health deteriorated. He grew up playing and coaching baseball and softball. He coached his wife's team to the '74 National Championships and won. He enjoyed spending time with his golfing buddies. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, October 2, 2017 at Trinity Moravian Church with Rev. John Jackman officiating. Burial will follow at God's Acre Salem Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 2, from 12:30 - 1:30 PM at Trinity Moravian Church.
