Larry Ray Winfrey, Sr.

Mr. Larry Ray Winfrey, Sr., 69, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center after a five-month battle against Leukemia . He was born on February 26, 1947 in Forsyth County to Raymond Hampton and Cynthia Wooten Winfrey. He graduated from West Forsyth High School, class of 1965. He was a mason and a member of Salem Lodge #289; a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He retired from the Teamsters Union with 30 years of loyal service where he was elected as trustee for two terms with the Teamsters local #391. Larry enjoyed building and racing limited sportsman at 311 Speedway. He loved gardening and feeding his birds. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Joan Hensley Winfrey of the Home; three sons, Larry Winfrey, Jr. of Winston-Salem, M. Patrick Winfrey and wife Jessa of Winston-Salem, Andy Winfrey and wife Debbie of Winston-Salem; daughter-in-law, Gina Winfrey of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, April and husband Thomas Manley, Julia, Chris, Rhiannon and husband Mark Schmidt, Billy, Matthew, Amanda, Zoe, Rowan; twelve great grandchildren; one sister, Debra Quesenberry and husband Stan of Stuart, VA; three brothers, Rev. John H. Winfrey and wife Sheila of King, David Winfrey and wife Sue of Texas, Mark Winfrey and wife Leslie of Winston-Salem; also, his special fur baby companion, Rosie Lynn and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2016 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. John H. Winfrey officiating.
