Lavandra "Vonnie" Mae Nelson Kiger

Lavandra “Vonnie” Nelson Kiger, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful follower of Christ, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024, in Germanton, NC. Born on November 26, 1941, in Rockingham County, NC, Vonnie's life was a testament to her deep love for family and unwavering faith. Vonnie was married to her loving husband, William “Bill” Everett Kiger, for an extraordinary 68 years. Together, they built a family filled with love and joy. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Elsie Smith; father, Earlie Via Nelson; sisters, Peggy Rowe, Betty Vanhoy, and Barbara Cheek; and grandson Robert Transou Jr.. She is survived by her husband, Bill; her sister, June Koehn; her brother, Jack Nelson; her four children Brenda Parker (David), Clinton Kiger (Sherry), Mary Cromer (Keith), Jack Kiger (Muzette) and grandchildren Dustin Parker, Susan Bone, Adam Kiger, Jeremy Parker, Matthew Kiger, Daniel Cromer, Katie Haymore, and Mary Braswell Kiger. Vonnie was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren who she loved dearly and brought so much joy to her life. A talented seamstress, artist, musician, and creator, Vonnie's artistic abilities were admired by all who knew her. Her hands were never idle, always crafting something beautiful for those she loved. She also had a deep love for music, and she was often found playing the mountain dulcimer with her husband Bill accompanying her on the guitar. Beyond her artistic talents, she was known for her deep and abiding love for her family and her devotion to Jesus Christ. Vonnie was a member of Corinth Church of Christ, where she consistently demonstrated her faith and love for Jesus. Vonnie's life was a shining example of kindness, creativity, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire her family and friends. A celebration of Vonnie's life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday June 22, 2024 at Corinth Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Corinth Church of Christ in her memory, 2784 South Friendship Road Germanton, NC 27019.
