Lavinia Slawter Chaplin

Mrs. Lavinia Slawter Chaplin, 96, of Mocksville, NC passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at her home. She was born October 17, 1927 in Surry County to the late Chester Elmer Slawter and Rachel Irene Slawter. She married the late Frank E. Chaplin on April 15, 1949 in York, SC. He was the love of her life and her rock. There wasn’t a day passed that he wasn’t in her thoughts. They had two children, Dale Chaplin (Anne) and Frankie Chaplin and two grandsons, Jonathan Chaplin (Anna) and Elliot Chaplin (Jackie). In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Mitchell; a sister, Mary S. Ellis and her stepmother, Mecie Bowman Slawter. Surviving are her children and grandchildren; a sister, Carol S. Rhodes; cousins and several nieces and nephews. Thanks to Dr. Lauren McKay for her care of our mother. A graveside service will be conducted at 12:00 noon Friday, January 5, 2024 at Cornatzer Baptist Church cemetery with Pastor Johnny Nunley officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
