Lemma Etta Cartner Payne

LEXINGTON, NC--Mrs. Lemma Etta Cartner Payne, 90, of Lexington, NC, took up residency at her heavenly home on Thursday, August 28, 2014. She was born July 1, 1924 in Davie County, to the late Lemuel Roscoe and Mary Bowen Cartner. On April 24, 1942 she married Ralph Edgar Payne who predeased her along with a brother Lonnie G. (L.G.) Cartner. Lemma and Ralph made their home in Davidson County. She was a member of Friedberg Moravian Church and retired from Hunter Publishing Company in 1974. Survivors include her two sons, Johnny Ray Payne and wife, Jill of Lexington and Donald Gray Payne and wife, Pat of Mocksville; her grandchildren, Stacy Payne and wife, Wendy of Lexington, Brody Jones and wife, Ashley of Statesville, Stephanie Cregar and husband, Eddie, Crystal Payne, and Patrick Payne, all of Mocksville; her great grandchildren, Tyler Payne, Aiden and Charlotte Jones, Zachery Bryson and Faith Payne; her sister, Ramona C. Hicks of King; her brothers, Billie L. Cartner, Rev. J. Dwight Cartner and wife, Carol, Ralph Arlon Cartner; her sister-in-law, Mildred R. Cartner of Winston-Salem; many nieces and nephews who were special to her; and her special Canine friend, Susie. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Friedberg Moravian Church with The Rev. Jimmy Newsome and the Rev. J. Dwight Cartner officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at their respective homes and at Friedberg Moravian Church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Friedberg Moravian Church, 2178 Friedberg Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127 or to Davidson County Home Delivered Meals, 555-B West Center Street Ext., Lexington, NC 27295.
