Mr. Leon Ramey, 79, of Clemmons passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born November 1, 1938 in Raccoon, KY, to the late Wheeler and Ester Ramey. Mr. Ramey retired from the Department of State Washington, DC after serving in several administrative positions in the Bureau of Administration, Bureau of Human Services, and the Bureau of Public Affairs. He served as the Executive Director for the Bureau of Public Affairs for fifteen years before retiring. During his time working at the Department of State, Mr. Ramey received several awards in recognition of his work including the Department's Superior Honor Award. Mr. Ramey was an Air Force veteran. Preceding him in death are his parents, his loving wife, Susan Boone Ramey, a sister, Kathleen Ramey Coleman, and two brother-in-laws, Tom Coleman and Ed Scott. Surviving are a daughter, Kimberly Hardgrove and husband Tom, a son, Douglas Ramey and wife Khristey, two grandsons, Jacob Hardgrove and Connor Henderson, two sisters, Faith Ramey Coleman of Norton, OH, and Carlene Ramey Scott of Akron, OH, a brother-in-law, James "Chig" Coleman, and a special friend, Linda Mabe. A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel, officiated by Pastor Cecil Farmer. The family will receive friends from 9:15 AM - 9:45 AM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to a charity of choice.
