Leon Wright

Mr. Leon Thomas Wright, 91, formerly of Lewisville and Swansboro, NC, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 5, 2018. Leon was born November 21, 1926 in Daisy, Tennessee to Tilford N. Wright and Pearl Carey Sims. He married Ruth Ballew in 1956. They were married for 59 years. He joined the Navy in February 1944 at 17 years of age, performed active duty in World War II and the Korean War, and retired from the Navy after 22 years. He worked at Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company for 21 years and retired to Swansboro, NC in 1987. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; daughter, Leigh Ann; sister, Marie; and brothers, Arby and June. He is survived by three children, Diana Reed and spouse, Bruce Reed, Nancy Gilley and spouse, Jerry Gilley, and Cindy Rice and spouse, Phil Rice; four grandchildren, Justin Reed, Brittany Reed, Joshua Winslow, and Alexander Winslow; five great-grandchildren, Raleigh, Pierce, Reagan, Eva Lynn, and Roslyn; a sister, Jenny Crane; and a sister-in-law, Bernice Hart and spouse, Larry. A celebration of Leon's life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons, NC.
