Leonard Franklin Wilkins

Mr. Leonard Franklin Wilkins, 89, peacefully took his leave for his Heavenly Home on February 4, 2014 at Grayson Creek Assisted Living in Welcome, North Carolina. He was born in Rockingham County on May 15, 1924 to Hildreth Wilkins and Lottie Lemons Wilkins. He was a WW II Veteran, a member of First Assembly of God, Winston-Salem where he served on the deacon board since 1966 and was a Sunday school teacher and attended Burlington Assembly of God. Mr. Wilkins was retired from Thomasville Furniture industry with 38 years of loyal service. He was preceded in death by wife Colleen, brother and sisters and Grandson Cody Minter. He is survived by two Godchildren; Charles Minter and wife Milda of Lexington and Michael D. Minter and wife Dawn of Raymond, Ca., five grandchildren; Shannon Minter Maloy and husband Daniel of Charleston, SC, Christine Minter Straus and husband Alex, Morgan Minter, of Lexington, North Carolina, Dustin Minter and Bethany of Oklahoma and Ryan Minter of Raymond, Ca., one sister; Ernestina Bentley, Encinitas California, two nieces; Patsy Culbertson, of Indian Trail, North Carolina and Joanne Turner of Kernersville, NC, one nephew; Jimmy Robertson of Belews Creek, NC; caregivers, Bonnie and Charles Minter of Lexington, NC. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Winston-Salem First Assembly of God, 3730 University Parkway, officiated by Dr. Michael Stewart, Dr. Mike Rakes, Rev. Bryan Rainbow, Rev. Howard Thompson, Rev. Ron McManus and Pastor Becky Pierce. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek is assisting the family.
