Letha "Diane" Chakona

Letha “Diane” Newsome Sell Chakona, 80, passed away Friday, January 16, 2026. She was born On April 1, 1945, in Forsyth County, NC, to the late Elmer Newsome and Margaret Newsome. Diane lived her entire life in Winston-Salem and graduated from Mineral Springs High School. Diane retired from Novant Health after 30 years of service. She spent many years supporting the Walkertown Wolfpack Pop Warner football team where she was a football mom and eventually became the president of the organization. She is survived by her son, David Sell; three bonus children, Sherry Chakona, Bo Chakon (Karen), and Timothy Chakona; nine grandchildren, Dante (Heather); Trevor Sell, Daniel Sell, Hannah Sell, Cameron Pack, Kacie Sell, Sarah Clark (Hunter), Emily Chakona, and TJ Chakona. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2026, at Crestview Memorial Park.
