Lillian Foster Barnes

Mrs. Lillian Foster Barnes, 104, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, June 5, 2025.

She was born on November 22, 1920, in Little Rock, SC, to the late Bert Houston Foster and Nonnie Lillian Medlin Foster.

Lillian grew up in Sanford, NC, and moved to Winston-Salem, NC, where she met and married the love of her life, her late husband, Hugh Lindsay Barnes, Sr., of Taylorsville, NC. She was a life-long homemaker and an avid bridge player.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lillian was preceded in death by her brothers, Roy Foster and Calvin Foster; and her sisters, Victoria Wilson and Treva Watson. 

She is survived by her two sons, Hugh Lindsay Barnes, Jr. (Judy) of Winston-Salem, NC, and Bert Calvin Barnes of the home; granddaughter, Amanda Barnes Crews (Matthew) of Winston-Salem, NC; grandson, Hugh Lindsay Barnes, III of Huntersville, NC; one great-grandson, William Thomas Crews; and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins.

There will be a graveside service held for Lillian on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 3:00PM at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Christa Warise and Rev. Ty Talton officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 1:00pm ~ 2:00pm at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.
