Mrs. Linda Griggs Beale, 84, of Clemmons, NC passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 14, 2026 at Bermuda Village Retirement Community. Linda was born in Cabarrus County on October 31, 1941 to the late Jerry Waddy and Hazel Foster Griggs. In 1966, she and her husband, John, made Clemmons their home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John Carrell Beale, and a brother, Colonel Jerry Griggs. Surviving are her children Seth Beale (Nicole) and Elizabeth Hill (Mayne); her grandchildren Seth, Zachary, and Elijah Hill, Evie Beale; a sister Nancy Griggs, a brother Mike Griggs (Felicia); a sister-in-law Betty Griggs, and numerous nieces and nephews who she loved very much. Linda was a graduate of Lees-McRae College and Appalachian State University.
Linda loved children so it was natural that she pursued a career as an elementary and pre-school teacher in both Davie and Forsyth County. Linda moved from the classroom to the shopping center when she and John opened Beth’s Hallmark in Clemmons in 1983. Together they owned and operated Beth’s Hallmark for over 30 years. While John loved visiting with customers, you could find Linda in the back meticulously wrapping gifts until they were perfect. Gift giving was Linda’s love language and she looked forward to going to the Atlanta market each year to choose special and unique items to share with their loyal customers.
Often referred to as “Sweet Linda,” Linda never missed an opportunity to offer a compliment or express gratitude. She believed that love could be expressed through a greeting card (Hallmark of course), hers written with her perfect penmanship. Linda also loved puzzles, the beach, watching sports - especially college basketball - peanut butter, cheese pizza with an alarming amount of crushed red pepper, and a cold Diet Coke. More than anything, she loved being with her family. Spending time with her grandchildren was her favorite hobby, whether she was rocking them for hours as babies, teaching them how to read, or learning about their lives as they grew into young adults. Linda was proud of her children Elizabeth and Seth and they continued her legacy as classroom teachers and she was the best mother-in-law to Mayne and Nicole, treating them as her own and showing them love and affection.
The family would like to offer special gratitude to the wonderful and caring employees of Bermuda Village Rehabilitation Center and Trellis Supportive Care during the last year of Linda’s life.
Memorial donations may be made to Clemmons Moravian Church, 3535 Spangenberg Ave, Clemmons, NC 27012, Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or a charity of one’s choosing. You can also honor Linda by sending a handwritten card, reading to a child, or spending time visiting with family.
** Mrs. Beale's graveside service at Clemmons Moravian Church Graveyard has been rescheduled to take place at 2:00 p.m Saturday, February 28, 2026. The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the church parlor.
