Linda Kay Wood

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Linda Kay Wood, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and member of the Welcome community, on Sunday afternoon, September 13, 2026, following a long battle with cancer.

Linda Wood, 80, of Welcome, was born on December 5, 1945, in Surry County to the late Thomas Roy Williams Sr. and Emma Lillian Chilton Williams. She retired in 2007 from Wake Forest Bowman Gray School of Medicine, where she served as a Senior Patient Accounts Coordinator.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Spurgeon Wayne Wood; her sister, Nancy Carolyn Flynt; and her brother, Thomas Roy Williams Jr.

She is survived by her three sons, Christopher Daniel Wall (Elizabeth), Gregory Wayne Wood (Michelle), and Keith Randal Wood (Ann), along with five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, at First Baptist Church of Welcome, where Linda was a member. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m., with Pastor Mark Blair officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem, located at 2730 Peters Creek Parkway.

Linda Wood’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who cherished her. Her devotion to her family and to her Savior, Jesus Christ, will remain her most enduring legacy.
