Lloyd Ray Gossett, 80, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2025, at the Durham VA Medical Center. He was born in Greene County, NC on September 23, 1944, to the late Allen Gossett and Naomi Johnson Gossett. Mr. Gossett was a charter member of Shallowford Presbyterian Church, retired from Duke Power, and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a paratrooper, served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star. Mr. Gossett enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and going to the beach. Most importantly he loved the role of “Papaw”! Preceding him in death was a grandchild, Cian Gossett, two brothers, Ronnie and Johnny Gossett and a sister, Faye Marty. Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Joyce Somers Gossett; two sons, Eric Gossett (Kelley) and Jason Gossett (Lindsay); seven grandchildren, Mackinley, Calum, Cowen, Carson, Ryan, Anna, and Matthew; two brothers, Allen “Buddy” Gossett, Jr, (Janice) and Robert “Bobby” Gossett (Joan); sister, Margaret Lindsay (Al); two sisters-in-law, Ellen Gossett and Carol Gossett; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at Shallowford Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A burial will follow the service at Parklawn Memorial Park with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans,251 N. Main St. Rm. 151 Winston-Salem, NC 27101-3914. Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel is serving the family of Mr. Gossett.
