Lois Vivian Dunn passed away Monday, September 11, 2017. Lois was born October 7, 1925 to Eugnia Reams Smith and Andrew A. Smith in Hopewell Va. Lois grew up in Newport News, Va and attended Newport News High School where she graduated valedictorian of her class. She also attended Newport News Business College and graduated with the highest average of her class. Her first job was at Newport News Citizens Marine Jefferson Bank as secretary to the President. Lois met her future husband Lawrence G. Dunn from Advance, NC who was working at the Newport News Shipyard. They married after Lawrence returned from the war and later moved to Winston-Salem. They were married 46 years until Lawrence passed away in 1994. Lois worked for Wachovia Bank in Winston Salem for five years until her first child, Patty was born. After her second child, Tamra, Lois went to work for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. She worked for Reynolds for 23 years in Industrial Engineering, Pastoral Counseling and finally in Public Relations. Lois retired from RJR in 1983. After retiring Lois volunteered at Forsyth Hospital in the Emergency Department for 8 years and later at the Food Bank of NW North Carolina. She also obtained her Real Estate license and worked for Old Colony Realty. Lois loved to travel and visited nine countries in Europe. She also enjoyed group bus trips and an occasional cruise. Lois was a lifetime member of Highland Presbyterian Church where she was very active. Lois was preceded in death by her Husband Lawrence Dunn and great aunt Mary Harris of California. Lois is survived by two daughters Patty Dunn of Clemmons and Tamra Dunn and husband Danny Taylor of Liberty; one grandson, Dustan Taylor who is currently a member of the US Army Marksmanship Unit in Ft. Benning Ga ; her brother Vernon Townsend, and a niece Cheryl Duke, both of Charlottesville, Va. A graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 12:00 Noon until 1:30 P.M. prior to the service at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Highland Presbyterian Church, or the Kate B Reynolds Hospice Home Health group. A special thank you to the outstanding staff at Brookstone Terrace of Clemmons for taking wonderful care of our mom the last 3 years of her life.
