Lois Mae Powell

Mrs. Lois Mae Powell, 90, of Advance, NC, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday morning, November 19, 2023 at Davie Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mocksville, NC.  Lois was born in Quinby, Virginia, to the late George and Mary Elizabeth Lewis on December 11, 1932. Lois was a kind and gentle soul who lived most of her life in Quinby. While she and her husband, Eugene Powell, had no children, she was a loving aunt to her brother and 2 sisters’ children. She worked at Ben Franklin Dept. Store in Exmore, Virginia for 25+ years, until retirement.

Lois moved to Advance, NC, in 2008 and lived with her niece and family, Jackie Mock. In 2015 she moved to Somerset Court Assisted Living. She enjoyed ice cream socials, walking the grounds of Somerset and engaging in the holiday events planned often throughout the year. Christmas parties with Santa Clause and Elvis each year were her favorite.  The family wishes to give special recognition to Lois’s friend and neighbor, Carolyn Lawson of Quinby, VA. Carolyn kept in loyal contact with Lois, sending local news and updates from Quinby over the years. Lois greatly appreciated her friendship.  Proceeded in Death: by her husband Roland Eugene Powell, a brother George Lewis (NY), two sisters, Margaret Lewis Byrd (VA) and Martha Lewis Smiley (NC).
