Mrs. Lois Hicks Stewart, 93, died on Friday, April 27, 2018, at her residence. Lois was born on August 24, 1924, in Davidson County to Fletcher and Fannie Younts Hicks. She was a devoted member of Antioch Baptist Church, where she was an active member who served and traveled with the senior group until she was physically unable. Lois loved her family and looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed yardwork and cruising around town in her ‘67 VW bug. Lois was steadfast, independent, and single handedly maintained her home up until a few years ago. She retired from Sears Catalog Department with over 30 years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 34 years, James Stewart Sr.; three sisters, Zulah Borland, Bernice Sink, and Margie Robertson; two brothers, Charles Hicks and Albert Hicks; and an infant brother, Rufus Hicks. Surviving are one daughter, Shelia Holden (Darrell); one son, Jim Stewart (June); two grandchildren, Jennifer Hill (Ben) and Derek Stewart (Katie); three great-grandchildren, Brayden Hill, Caelyn Stewart, and Ian Stewart; one sister-in-law, Cordelia Byers; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Monday, April 30, 2018, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Chris Byrne officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:45-1:45pm on Monday, April 30, 2018, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Angelia Riggins and Tabetha Baker for all the love and care they gave to Mrs. Stewart over the past three years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
