Lon Earl "Bud" Sorrell

Lon Earl ""Bud"" Sorrell went home to his Father in Heaven on Friday, August 12, 2016. Lon was born in Hampton, Tennessee to Myrtle Lambert Sorrell and Manly Eugene Sorrell. One of ten children raised through the Great Depression in rural eastern Tennessee, my father learned well the lessons of hard work, the value of education, the rewards of frugality, and the blessings of family. All of these he endeavored to pass on to me throughout his life.
Lon was the loving husband to Mattie during their 71 years of marriage. He watched as Alzheimer's stole the love of his life away from him slowly over many years, yet, all through this time, maintained his love and caring for Mattie. Mattie passed away October 13, 2015.
A Naval veteran of World War II, Mason (Pioneer Lodge #685), and member of Wake Forest Baptist Church, he attended East Tennessee State and the University of Tennessee earning his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed with Western Electric at the Lexington Road location here in Winston-Salem, NC where he never missed a day of work in thirty years. Dad always tried to do his very best at anything he set out to accomplish and this quality is evident in his work. He was a talented craftsman and woodworker building many fine pieces of furniture throughout his life and into retirement.
Lon is survived by younger twin brothers, Lewis Sorrell and Luther Sorrell, one older sister, Lorraine Baker, his son, Michael Sorrell, two grandchildren, and one great grandson. He loved his first grandchild, Jana-girl, and that love was reflected back to her Da-da as well. Maw-maw, Da-da, and Jana-girl were blessed with many happy times together. He will be sorely missed by us all, and yet we can rejoice at the peace and everlasting life received in Heaven and purchased by Our Savior, Jesus Christ.
